Spider-Man 3 succeeds where Assassin’s Creed failed
Recently, I picked up Spider-Man 3 for the 360 at a very cheap price (I think I paid 10 bucks for it). I also beat Assassin’s Creed early this year but more on that later. While playing through Spider-Man 3, I kept thinking to myself how much more awesome it would be if they had access to the engine that Assassin’s Creed used. AC is basically a Spider-Man game minus the web, annoying Kirsten Dunst, and a modern setting. Stick with me here.

Spider-Man 3 is no way a perfect game but it does do what it sets out to do well. There’s a plethora of missions in the game, most optional, and they nailed the main purpose any game should set out to do; they made it fun. I’ve been playing the game for 13 hours so far and I still come back to it. I’m sure after I beat it I won’t touch it again, but it’s serving its purpose well for the time being. There’s plenty of bad with the game, especially QTE (quick time events) which are all over the place. I mean when Shenmue introduced it, it was cool and innovating. Ever since then, people have just add more buttons you need to press and shortened the time in which you need to do so. QTE’s are a failed gameplay element developers, stop with it already (I better not see any in my God of War 3).

Back on topic, AC did a few things right but in my opinion totally missed a huge part that a game of this nature needs; variety. You do one of 4 things in AC: pickpocket, interrogate, eavesdrop, and straight up assassinate dudes. The first 2 hours of the game was amazing but shortly after that you realize that’s all you are going to be doing for the next 6-7 hours. I don’t care how you slice it, that stuff gets boring quickly.

Now what needs to happen is this; Ubisoft gets a license for Spider-Man and make a awesome Spider-Man game. Either that or look up the word variety in a dictionary because clearly they thought the could get away with half-stepping with AC. Imagine a game that looked as stunning as AC but had the variety of Spider-Man. I think it would be an awesome game to say the least. Chances of it happening? I’m going to have to say 0% but I can dream right?
Oh so I guess I’ll just come out and say it: Spider-Man 3 is better than Assassin’s Creed.

That’s pretty interesting. Brian finally got a copy of Assassins’ Creed to play from Blockbuster. I think he likes it. From what I saw it looked neat. I mostly just heard it from my room, though. And let me tell you; from an auditory standpoint, that game is hella repetitive.
Yikes.
HELLA.
I haven’t played, or watched Brian play, Spider-man 3 yet. Maybe that will change soon.
Too late on that, Jason. I already beat Spider-Man 3. I agree totally with what Jermaine said on this one. It was fun and all but I probably wouldn’t return to it. Plus, the QTE’s got annoying pretty fast. Most of the time, I just wanted to see what sweet thing Spider-Man was doing but I had to concentrate on some X-Y-Y-B combination or something. At least with Resident Evil 4 you got to see the movies after you beat the game to watch what you missed.
@Brian
Awesome, I knew you would like it. I hope when they do the next one it looks even better and that they take out the QTE’s. Spider-Man is one to be watched and I hope we get the chance to do that in the next game.
