A Call to Arms

Unknown to most, I do not watch the news and especially Fox News. There’s so much stuff that is made up and an out right lie that you’re better off waiting a week after something happens so that you actually get the facts. Recently Fox did a story on the game Mass Effect claiming that it has full digital nudity and sex in it. Anyone who has played the game knows that this is far from the truth. They had Geoff Keighley of GameTrailers TV on to talk about that scene and they completely didn’t let the man talk. As soon as he started making points they would cut him off as all people who don’t know how to debate do. He stated that their accusations where false and the scene was an optional part of the game. Click to see the story that aired on Fox:

I was highly pissed off when I seen the news story that Fox had and absolutely cut Geoff from actually talking about the game. You can see that after they let him go, they continued to talk about the harmful nature of video games between one another. The host of the show says that video games and watching what your kids are doing “makes being a parent a much harder job”. How lazy is that? I mean if you choose to have kids then you should know it’s a full time job! The Xbox 360 has numerous ways to watch what your kids do on the system and you can even restrict them from playing certain rated games.

And here’s the sex scene in question:

Wow, how graphical was that? I think I saw some side-boob in there and like 2 seconds of a butt cheek. I see more nudity walking to work during the week. Don’t act like you’ve never seen the girl who wears the shirt that fits when she’s standing upright, but when she bends over you can see all her glory bits. Or the girl who thinks that 2 sizes too small is sexy. All around us, without even looking for it, sex can be found. Have it be walking down the magazine aisle in the grocery story or watching commercials for male enhancements.

Video games are not unlike other forms of media yet they receive all the hype for being wrong for our kids. There’s only two things that will change the way video games are looked upon in the mainstream media and government; 1: all of the old people need to retire and let new blood into office. 2: gamers need to stand up and educate the rest of the world of games. I don’t know how but I will get my words heard to those who can’t see that movies, games, and literature are all forms of entertainment and should be judged the same.

I have so many words on this subject but I must control and focus my anger/emotions towards a goal so I don’t have to hear about how Jimmy beat up his sister because of a video game. I know the video game industry is in the same stage as TV shows where 20 years ago and this time will pass.

It was pretty infuriating to hear these people talk about things they admittedly knew nothing about.

Nobody they talked to had played the game except for Geoff.

    Wow.

One can’t turn in a book report having never read the book (or at the very least, Cliff’s Notes) and still expect to get an A. Similarly, you can’t analyze a videogame if you’ve never played it.

In any case, we know that these people are uneducated and/or ill-informed about what they’re talking about. It’s unfortunate that they’re not going to do the research and, moreover, that it’s actually beneficial to their aim if they don’t.

Why care about facts when you’ve got all the lies in the world?
